Double Annulus: Another Picture

Double Annulus
Originally uploaded by Thole Man.
A twin tree,-Norway Spruce,- blown down by the wind blocks the path. It was cut in half to clear the way leaving half the tree(s) supported on its radial branches. The annular rings are exposed for all to see. This drawing is 24" square. By using this black and white medium I mimic B&W photography but don't aim for TOTAL photo-realism. The graphite is worked into the paper until it shines like the surface of a glossy photograph but I use the grainy texture of the heavy Fabriano paper to retain the drawn element.
